The NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office maintains and operates a small group of research vessels (abbreviated as R/V) to meet scientific needs associated with Bay protection and restoration efforts and living resource management.

The R/V Bay Commitment is the most versatile of the NOAA Chesapeake Bay Office's vessels, and provides support for education, scientific, and management programs at the Office.

The R/V Lookdown is the Office's primary hydrogaphic survey vessel. The Lookdown is trailerable and can deliver mapping services regionally.

The R/V Allision is used to maintain the network of Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoys (CBIBS) "smart buoys" around the Bay. The Allision's rigid hull, inflatable boat (RHIB) design is ideal for coming alongside the buoys to service their onboard water quality and meterological data acquisition systems.
